SUGAR LAND OPHTHALMOLOGIST

Are you searching for an eye care specialist in Sugar Land, Houston?

Dr. Mark C. Vital specializes in comprehensive eye exams, as well as the treatment of complex ocular issues such as

Cataracts

Cataracts are a common occurrence of aging. If left untreated, they can result in permanent vision loss. Thankfully, cataracts can be treated through treatments like zepto cataract surgery, eye drops, and more. Undergoing cataract surgery involves replacing the natural lens of your eye with an intraocular lens (IOL).

Cornea

A corneal problem can lead to poor vision and severe pain. Depending on its condition, a variety of treatments can be used to treat conditions of the cornea. Among these treatments are artificial tears, specialty contact lenses, and surgery.

Dry Eyes

Dry eyes are commonly caused by eye infections, oil, and inflammation. Usually, dry eyes are a result of an underlying eye condition. However, there are cases of dry eye caused by incomplete blinking, sleeping with the eye partially open, or tear deficiency, though these are rarer. Dry eyes can be treated through artificial teardrops, eye drops, humidifiers, and more.

Keratoconus

Keratoconus is an eye condition where the cornea becomes thin and misshapen. It can cause corneal scarring and astigmatism and is usually inherited. Keratoconus can be treated through cornea surgery procedures and, in some cases, glasses and contact lenses.

Fuch’s Dystrophy

Fuch’s dystrophy is a genetic disorder of the cornea where the innermost layers of cells in the cornea begin to die. This results in the cornea swelling and vision becoming cloudy due to these cells dying. Fuch’s dystrophy can be treated through salt drops and ointments in the earlier stages but must be corrected via a corneal transplant if the condition worsens.

Corneal Transplants, Infections & Scars

Corneal scars tend to vary on how much they affect vision; if intrusive, they can be corrected through corneal surgery. Corneal transplant surgery is usually performed to restore the cornea to its natural characteristics. However, the type of corneal transplant that you undergo depends entirely on your specific ocular condition.

Herpes

There are many different types of names for herpes that affect the cornea. When considering treating herpes, the process can be fairly complex. It’s imperative to consult with an experienced ophthalmologist when treating herpes.

Routine Eye Care

Some eye conditions tend to develop very slowly, showing symptoms only after severe damage has been done. For this reason and others, it’s imperative to get routine eye exams to maintain healthy vision. If you’re concerned about how many eye exams you should be having, schedule an appointment today with Dr. Mark Vital!
